Look for the internet to apply downward pressure on the cost of communication, both on and offline.  In other words, traditional fax services and telephone services have a whole new bevy of competitors.  because of this intense competition, a good number of these services will not survive.  Therefore, make sure that whomever you go with, online or off, has a good tract of record and is apt to stay around.
